WCBC–A Salvationist College for the Year 2000

Listen to this article

Across North America, a million and more persons today are hoping to find the college that will be right for them next fall. The big questions are about fit: “Is there a program that fits my interests and needs?” “Is there a college that fits my wallet?” For the serious Christian student, “Will I learn from professors that will respect my Christian faith?” And finally, for the Salvationist student, “Is there a Salvation Army college that teaches from a Salvationist perspective?” The good news is that all four questions have the same answer: William and Catherine Booth College.

William and Catherine Booth College is a quality option at an unbelievably affordable price for Salvationists interested in specific academic programs related to the ministries of The Salvation Army. The college offers programs in Christian ministry, social work, and Biblical and Theological Studies leading to the following credentials: Certificate of Liberal Arts, Certificate of Biblical Studies, Diploma in Biblical Studies and Leadership Training, Bachelor of Arts (General Advanced ), a joint Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Theology, and a Masters of Divinity degree.

A whole year of tuition, room, and board costs only $5,000 (US). This is because the college has a good endowment, receives support from the denomination (The Salvation Army/Canada & Bermuda Territory), and also from the provincial government of Manitoba. This makes it very affordable.

William and Catherine Booth College is in three locations, with its main one in Winnipeg. It also offers courses in Toronto, Ontario and St. Johns, New Foundland at The Salvation Army’s training colleges. Students enrolled in the college in Winnipeg historically come from across Canada, the United States, and from around the world (Germany, Russia, Rwanda, South Africa, Kenya, Norway, Australia, Jamaica). Eighty per cent of WCBC students are Salvationists. Twenty per cent represent other Christian denominations.

Winnipeg is a cosmopolitan city of 650,00 people in central Canada. Ethnically diverse, it has 45 distinct ethnic groups. Winnipeg is a culturally vibrant city, with a world class symphony and ballet, theatres, art museums, professional sports teams, two universities, four other colleges, and a strong Salvation Army presence.

William and Catherine Booth College is accredited, an official teaching center of the University of Manitoba, and a member of the Winnipeg Theological Consortium. The college serves more than 300 Salvation Army officers who are enrolled in the college’s courses throughout the year in three locations. Most of them are working toward completion of a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
